Richmond shows outstanding results in G.C.E. Advanced Level 2019

Results of the G.C.E. Advanced Level 2019 were released recently. Accordingly, 468 Richmonddites have gained with the percentage of 74.5 for university entry out of 628 applicants.
Number of candidates with A passes for all the subjects is 55. This consists of 32 candidates for Physical Science, 5 candidates Biological science, 13 for Commerce and Business Studies , 5 for Art stream.
Further, Pavindu U. Jayasekara was ranked All island 6th place in Biological stream New syllabus, Isuru Randila Bandara was ranked All island 7th place in Physical Science stream.. Y.T. Edirisinghe was ranked All island 21th place in Art stream and Sasanga Kumara was ranked all island 19th place old syllabus in Physical science

The 143nd annual prize giving of Richmond College

The 143nd annual prize giving of Richmond College was held on 05th of November 2019 at Dr. C.W.W. Kannangara Auditorium. Event was organized under two categories as junior prize giving and senior prize giving.

Junior Prize Giving was graced by renowned old boy, gynecologist,Senior Lecturer of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya  Dr. Chaminda Kandauda as the chief guest.

Senior Prize Giving was graced by distinguished old boy, Consultant Cardiologist of General Hospital of Colombo Dr. Anidu Pathirana as the chief guest.

Prizes were awarded to the students who have excelled in a wide range of fields including academic, sports, aesthetic and other extra curricular activities.

Stunning Performances of Richmondites in International Arena

Group of six students including Himanshu Sahabandu, Sudam Kovida Munasinghe, Riviru Jayasekara, Senuth Damviru, Mihin De Silva and Mevan Weerawarna,  left to Lucknow, India on 30th September to take part in ” Reflections the international Festival History and Civics” which was organized by the City Montessori Campus in Lucknow. .

The team of Richmond was able to win the runners up among the 69 schools of South Asia by bagging six medals in several events.

  1. Third place in Choreography
  2. Second place in model display
  3. Second place in Brochure making
  4. Second place in creative writing
  5. Third place in poster making
  6. The best groomed team

 

Richmond ruined the Aloysius hope ,became joined champions

Richmond- Aloysius 26th Rugby encounter was held on the 15th of July at the Free investment Zone playground in Koggala.

Aloysius team came up with much positive approach to hold their Rugby title for consecutive third time but well prepared Richmond players shattered the hope of Aloysians by showing their best rugby performance after a long time. Both teams made a great thrill for the spectators and ended the match by showing 10-10 equal points on the score board. Richmonddite  Sasidu Kavinda was awarded as the best player of the game for the Richmond side while Dulara Malinga of Richmond College was awarded as the most disciplined player of the game. After three years of real thirst of victory Richmond players were able keep much pride and dignity of the Richmond Rugby by possessing more credit for their side although match was ended drawn

Rivinethu  Abbhiman, Sinhala Language literary festival of Richmond College was held on 5th of July at C.W.W. Kannangara Auditorium , On the invitation of the principal of Richmond college Dr. Lanka de Silva, Senior lecturer and the former head of the department of Sinhala  of the University of Kelaniya  graced this occasion as the chief guest.

This event created a good platform for students to show their Sinhala language skill on the stage. Students were also distributed certificates who placed the Sinhala day competition.

Rivminiharasara felicitation ceremony to felicitate best achievers of Ordinary Level exam and Advance level exam was held of 8th of July at C.C.W. Kannangara auditorium under the auspices of the principal of Richmond College Mr. Sampath Weragoda

67 students of O/L who got 9 A passes and 52 students of A/L who achieved best in all island and district levels were felicitated in this occasion.

Wes Abhises Samarpanaya”-2019

The ceremony of adornment of “Wes” of 16 students who learnt and practiced Eastern dancing at Richmond College was held on 6th June at the Buddhist shrine premises under the traditional eastern dancing  customs. According to the customs of Wes the students were offered to God for a period of days before the ceremony.

The students were adorned “Wes” at the auspicious moment at 6.49 a.m. with the participation of veteran teachers amidst pirith chantings, conch blowings and ceremonial drum beatings .After expelling all evil effects, the dancers presented their debut dance while reciting permitting lines(“waram kavi”).They also presented the ritual “Kohomba Kankariya”.
