The Birthday of the Father of Free Education Gracefully Celebrated

A renowned old boy of Richmond College, the first education minister of Sri Lanka and the father of free education, Dr. Christopher William Wijekoon Kannangara was born on the 13th of October, 1884. The floral tribute in commemoration of the 138th birth anniversary was held in front of the Parakramabahu statue at the Richmond College premises. Hundreds of students and teachers paid their tribute to the great personality by placing a bouquet of flowers on the platform.

The 143nd annual prize giving of Richmond College

The 143nd annual prize giving of Richmond College was held on 05th of November 2019 at Dr. C.W.W. Kannangara Auditorium. Event was organized under two categories as junior prize giving and senior prize giving.

Junior Prize Giving was graced by renowned old boy, gynecologist,Senior Lecturer of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Peradeniya  Dr. Chaminda Kandauda as the chief guest.

Senior Prize Giving was graced by distinguished old boy, Consultant Cardiologist of General Hospital of Colombo Dr. Anidu Pathirana as the chief guest.

Prizes were awarded to the students who have excelled in a wide range of fields including academic, sports, aesthetic and other extra curricular activities.

 

Stunning Performances of Richmondites in International Arena

Group of six students including Himanshu Sahabandu, Sudam Kovida Munasinghe, Riviru Jayasekara, Senuth Damviru, Mihin De Silva and Mevan Weerawarna,  left to Lucknow, India on 30th September to take part in ” Reflections the international Festival History and Civics” which was organized by the City Montessori Campus in Lucknow. .

The team of Richmond was able to win the runners up among the 69 schools of South Asia by bagging six medals in several events.

  3. Second place in Brochure making
  4. Second place in creative writing
  5. Third place in poster making
  6. The best groomed team

 

Rivinethu Abbhiman

Rivinethu  Abbhiman, Sinhala Language literary festival of Richmond College was held on 5th of July at C.W.W. Kannangara Auditorium , On the invitation of the principal of Richmond college Dr. Lanka de Silva, Senior lecturer and the former head of the department of Sinhala  of the University of Kelaniya  graced this occasion as the chief guest.

This event created a good platform for students to show their Sinhala language skill on the stage. Students were also distributed certificates who placed the Sinhala day competition.

“Richmond” resonated in the streets of Galle

Richmond Walk 2019″was held successfully on 22nd February 2019, in order to commemorate the 125th anniversary of the Old Boys’ Association of Richmond College. The principal Mr.Sampath Weragoda, past principal B.Suriarachchi and many other distinguished guests participated along with the old boys, staff and students to walk.

Starting around at 8:00 a.m. from the school premise they walked to “Samanala ground” where “Richmond Rhythm”carnival was also set to happen. It was too organized in celebration of 125th anniversary of RCOBA. There the end of the walk was marked the beginning of the Rhythm carnival.

Not only with the Richmond community but also with many enticing items, the extravagance of walk was enhanced. Old fashioned automobiles and horse riders were some of the enticements.Members of all the sports and games and clubs and societies of Richmond College walked with their separate placards. Their voices in a unison, resonated R-I-C-H-M-O-N-D-Richmond”

 

 

 

Primary Sportsmeet-2019

The inter-house Primary sports-meet 2019 was held last Thursday the 21st of February with the participation of the renowned richmonddite  Dr.Gayan Eyanayake. There were many events in the sports-meet including the drill display and the ceremonial march past. This event has created a good platform to young Richmonddites to show their talent .

Inter-House Sport Meet 2019

The inter-house sports-meet 2019 of Richmond college was held on the 06th of February at the college Sneath ground  under the auspices of the renowned richmonddite, former sports’ captain of the college, superintendent of police, Mr. Vidura P.Jayasinghe.
Darrel house won the championship of the inter-house sports-meet 2019 while Sneath house became 1st runners up and Small house became 2nd runners up. Langdon house remains in the 4th place. .
Chanidu Lakhiru of Darrell house won the award for the best player under 12 category while Rehan Sithila Yapa of Sneath house won the award for the best player  under 14 category.

Sanuka Nanayakkara of Darrell house who was the best player  under 16  category and was able to break a inter-house sports-meet record in the shot put event. Risinu Randunu Liyanage of Darrell house won the award for the best athlete in under 18 category and Sports captain Binara Thaabrew won the award for the best athlete in under 20 category.
Harith Umayanga of Langdon house was the best athlete in junior catogory and Pasindu Lakshan of Darrell house was the best athlete in senior category while over all Charith Anuraha of Darrell house won the award for the best athlete for the year 2019.
Ceremonial march-past done by the grade 10 students and the drill display done by the grades 7,8 students made a flamboyant picture to event.

142nd Annual Prize Giving of Richmond College

The 142nd annual prize giving of Richmond College was held on 26th of October 2018 at Dr. C.W.W. Kannangara Auditorium. Event was organized under two categories as junior prize giving and senior prize giving.

Junior Prize Giving was graced by renowned old boy, Dean of the Faculty of Industrial and Vocational Technology, Dr. D.D.D. Suraweera as the chief guest.

Senior Prize Giving was graced by distinguished old boy, Chartered Accountant, The Managing partner of BDO, Mr. Sujeewa Rajapakse as the chief guest.

Prizes were awarded to the students who have excelled in a wide range of fields including academic, sports, aesthetic and other extra curricular activities.
