Galle District Hockey Championship to Richmond College

At the Under 15 Galle District Hockey tournament ended recently, Richmond team won the District Championship bringing much credit to their Alma Mater. The victorious team consisted of the following players.

E.A.Ravindu, E.A.Danuja Lakshan, A.A.Pasan Sandeepa, , D.P.Vihanga , Ganindu Jayasundara, W.A.S.Yuthmika ,L.N.G.Binara Ishan , W.A.Janith Charuka,W.B.Keshawa Dasun, U.G.Pasindu Tharaka, D.A.A.Gunawardena ,M.K.Hasal Indusara, M.M.N.Shammas, E.D.H.L.Dananjaya, B.Sankha Warapitiya, U.G.Samurdha Udakara, S.G.J.Arachchi, K.Awishka Madhumal, Laksha Fernando .

Mr Lanka Senanayaka  , the master in charge of Hockey at Richmond , acts as the driving force behind these victories.

Admission of new students for grade 01

Admission of new students for grade one of Richmond College occurred  on 11th of January 2017.Honourable Minister of Home Affairs  Mr. Vajira Abeywardena was the chief Guest of the event while the Member of the Parliamment, Mr Vijepala Hettiarachchi graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.Further Mr Jayantha  Jayaweera , Member of the Southern Provincial Council also took part in the event as a special guest
 273 students have won the opportunity to enter the grade one classes of Richmond College this year.

National Junior Olympiad Competition – 2016

At the National Junior Olympiad Competition held recently, Richmond Contestant

K.J.Y .Nithulaka Jayasekara , won   gold medal. So far he has made several victories in Mathematics competitions and much is expected from him in future too. Mrs Deepa Jalathge  guides him for these victories   as the   Teacher in Charge of the College Olympiad Pool.

18th International Computer Olympiad Competition- 2016

The 18th International Computer Olympiad  competition organized by  City Montessori school  of Lucknow in  India , Two Richmond Contestants won  a gold medal and a silver medal.

Nadith Hansaja Jayawardana    3rd place in Cofas Doodle  Category

While Mr Thilakasiri Kariyawasam acted as the master in Charge, Mrs. Warna Ruhunage , Mr. A.W.P.W. Abeydeera and Mrs. Indrapali Jayawardena  accompanied the team for this tournament held in India.

International Recognition for the Richmond Chess player

The first Western Asian Youth Chess Tournament 2016 was held in United Arab Emirates from 23rd  to 30th December 2016  .

Thenura Dilruk Wickramarathne  who represented Sri Lanka at this tournament won a silver medal and a bronze medal adding much glory to his Alma Mater and his country.

With these victories , Thenura has been named as the first Richmond chess player as well as the youngest Sri Lankan Chess player to win the  Candidate Master Title.

Mr Chandana Kumara is the master in charge of the chess  team and Mr Gihan Perera trains him as the Coach.

Asian Weight Lifting Tournament -2016

Asian Weight Lifting Tournament 2016 was held in Malaysia recently. There the Richmond players representing the Sri Lankan  team  , brought several victories to their motherland adding much glory to their Alma Mater too.

  1. Senior section – 56 kg weight category

Third place – P.O.Jayasundara

  1. 85 kg Weight Category

Third place  – T.S.Jayasuriya

  1. 95 kg Weight Category

Third Place  –  Sahan Rajamanthri

Mr Jayantha Hettiarachchi  guided these students as the master in charge of the College Weight Lifting Unit.
