Chess
Richmond chess champion M.K Athula Rrussel won the men’s National Championship title for the third time.

He was a member of the school U19 chess team which won the Championship at the 10th National School games 2001.
His other notable achievements are..

  • · National Junior Champion 2001, 2002
  • · Participated; Asian Junior chess championship 2001 in Iran, World Junior Chess Championship 2002 in India, Chess Olympiad 2002 in Slovenia.
  • · 9th National School games 2000 – Runners up
  • · Sri Lanka Schools Sports Colours 2001
  • He has also participated The Commonwealth Chess Championship 2004, 2006 in India, Chess Olympiad 2004 in Spain, Chess Olympiad 2006 in Italy and already written a book about chess endgame theory. (Rook Endings – ISBN 955-1468-00-7)

 

Athletics
Daham set a new Sri Lanka record in the 80m hurdles event(12.7 sec) at the Sri Lanka Junior National Athletic Festival 2003. He set another two Sri Lanka records in under 15 100m event (11.49 sec)and long jump event (6.4m) at the All Island Schools Athletic Festival 2004. He was a member of the 100x4 relay team who set another Sri Lanka record(45.7 sec) at the same Athletic Festival.
Daham is a student from Boossa and he and his family like so many others in the area were victims of Tsunami . But Daham had courage to fight back and in 2005 with the help of his master in charge & coach Kaushalya Perera and the principal and the teachers of the college he set another three Sri Lanka records.

  • · under 17 100m event (11.22 sec) All Island Schools Athletic Festival 2005
  • · under 17 200m event (22.68 sec) All Island Schools Athletic Festival 2005

He is very good at his studies too and he won a merit prize at the recently held 129th Senior Prize Giving 2005.

 

Cricket

The captain of our 1st xi team Chathupama Gunasinghe toured England with the Sri Lanka under 19 team. He represented under 19 National team at the Under 19 World Cup Championship which was held in Sri Lanka in February 2006.

Sir John Tarbet Athletic Championship 2006
Sir John Tarbet Athletic Chamionship was held at the Sugathadasa Stadium Colombo. Richmond College won the outstation boy’s championship and the overall track event championship. Ashan Hasaranga won the Gold Medal in the 200m event.Daham Madawa won the Bronze medal in the under 18, 100m event while Ashan Hasaranga won the Bronze medal in the under 20, 100m event.
Richmond College also won the Gold medal in the 4x100m event and the Bronze medal in the 4x400m event.
