TRIBUTE TO THE FALLEN – THE WAR HEROES COMMEMORATION CEREMONY 2026
"Tribute to the Fallen – The War Heroes Commemoration Ceremony 2026" concluded with dignity and military precision at the Richmond College War Heroes' Monument Premises, marking one of the most significant commemorative events of the College's Sesquicentennial Celebrations.
The ceremony was graced by distinguished Old Richmondite Air Vice Marshal Lalith Jayaweera VSV, USP, MBBS (SL), MSc (D&SS), Dip Av Med (USA), psc as the Chief Guest . His presence added immense prestige to the occasion, honouring the legacy of the brave sons of Richmond who made the supreme sacrifice in service to the nation.
Further enhancing the prestige of the occasion was the participation of over 90 serving officers representing the Sri Lanka Army, Sri Lanka Navy, and Sri Lanka Air Force, alongside more than 60 retired officers. Their presence added immense dignity to the ceremony and served as a powerful tribute to the memory of the 21 fallen Richmondite war heroes, reflecting the enduring bond of service, sacrifice, and patriotism.
Through military honours, ceremonial salutes, and solemn acts of remembrance, the gathering honoured the courage, selflessness, and unwavering patriotism of these fallen heroes. Their sacrifice continues to inspire generations of Richmondites to uphold the values of duty, honour, and service above self.
